Plumbing and Appliances
Your plumbing and fixtures make up roughly 15 percent of the value of your home. When you add up all of the supply lines, the sanitary lines, every sink, tub, shower, faucet and toilet, you can see how much money you have invested in your plumbing system. Hard water can take a heavy toll on your plumbing and fixtures. By having soft water in the home, you are protecting a major investment and eliminating the chance of scale build up in your plumbing and fixtures.
Another problem caused by hard water is the wear and tear on water-using appliances. You have a great deal of money invested in your hot water tank, dishwasher, washing machine and other water-using appliances. How long those appliances last and how well they do their jobs is directly related to the quality of the water they use every day.
Since soft water contains no scale forming minerals, it leaves the inside of water-using appliances free of solidified rock. Appliances operate more efficiently and last longer when using soft water. Leading appliance manufacturers, including Maytag, have recognized the problems that hard water causes and recommend the use of home water softeners to help their own products operate more efficiently.
